Marè Resort

The hotel was modern and in a very convenient spot. We had no WiFi at all during our stay, either in the room or anywhere on the floor, and cellular reception was poor too, so we were cut off from the Internet. We raised it with staff several times. They told us to check again later or said it would be fixed within 30 minutes, but the problem never went away.

A great looking building in a good location, but the hotel was hugely disappointing. The place felt dark and gloomy, and the staff's attitude matched it. We were even told off for opening the corridor blinds to get some sunlight so we could make our way safely over the many tiled steps. Our junior suite cost 216 euros and was supposed to have a street or city view, but all we saw was a blank wall. There was a kettle, but no tea, coffee, or drinking glasses, just cheap disposable plastic beakers. The WiFi was missing too. At first they blamed the wind, but other staff, probably being more honest, said there had never been a connection in that part of the building. Even so, the hotel still advertises Free Wifi in all rooms. Breakfast was on the terrace in a cold wind, with staff wearing black leather gloves to keep warm. It was uninspiring for a prestigious hotel. When we asked to sit in the sun, we were told that wasn't allowed and had to sit freezing in the shade. Good management could improve all these shortcomings and the general culture.

The location was good, and so was breakfast. My room in the historic building was large, though a little tired. The TV had an English-speaking station, which I was happy about.

For a hotel at this price, I expected better. It felt very overrated, reception was often closed because they were understaffed, and heavy hammering from renovation work in the establishment woke me early in the morning.
