The room was very clean and warm, but basic. Water pressure was weak, and the wifi didn’t reach our attic room. Maybe that could have been fixed if I’d asked. The service felt so nonchalant that it barely seemed to be there. Nobody really greeted us, and breakfast had cereal without milk and tea bags without hot water. It was otherwise nice, but not a good fit if you want healthier choices like vegetables, granola, or unsweetened yogurt. Staff were very, very nice and keen to help, and I’m sure they would have helped if I’d asked. Just don’t expect an excited welcome or open arms when you arrive. The place itself is beautiful, almost magical. An elegant restaurant at the hotel entrance, with vineyards and green fields all around, sets a lovely mood. But the signs weren’t clear, so we may have used the second parking lot and had to carry our 20kg piece of luggage over pebbles for a bit of a walk. This review is about the hotel. If it were about the restaurant, it would probably be an easy five stars: we had lunch there once, and it was splendid.

The setting is rustic, with lots of greenery and incredible views. The staff are warm, and the cuisine is superb. Zucchini flowers with prosciutto crudo make a great starter, and the wines are amazing too. Really recommend it.

Our wedding at Villa De Winckels made all our wildest dreams come true. The team supported us throughout the preparations, arranged a tasting, and patiently answered a million questions. We had a Plan A, mostly outdoors as we preferred, and a Plan B. Heavy rain in the days before made Plan A impossible, so we had agreed to use Plan B. Then the sun came out on the wedding day. Without involving us, the team replanned things to keep as much of Plan A as possible, so we could focus on the big day. The villa and surroundings felt magical, like a fairytale. The team was attentive, the food incredible, and staying in the Tower for our first night as newlyweds added to the fairytale feeling. Having rooms for guests was a huge help with our many international guests. I can’t recommend it enough or thank Massimo and his team enough for making it so magical!

The staff are very friendly and the service is perfect. I always enjoy coming back to this charming villa for its garden, enoteca, and restaurant. The food is authentic, prepared very nicely, and still has that typical Italian good taste.
