Locanda La Canonica

I’ve stayed in more than 100 hotels across Europe, America and Asia, and this was the first time I’d been told at reception to either wait five minutes for staff to enter my passport details into the system or leave my passport at the desk for hours while I went downstairs to dinner. Why should typing a few letters take so long? The gentleman said it was an Italian rule, but I’ve been to Italy three times. I know hotels need passport details, but this process felt especially inefficient. It should take about 30 seconds to enter a name and the other details. Later, he called my husband my friend. I smiled and corrected him, but he immediately did it again and said it didn’t matter to him. It may not matter to him, but it matters to me. If he’d just got it wrong the first time, I’d have thought he didn’t know. After I corrected him and he repeated it, I felt he wasn’t respecting me. In general, the staff member didn’t seem professional at his job.
