Sa Hotel

The bar and pool were particular highlights, and breakfast and dinner were fresh, generous, and delicious. Cocktails were so good we wanted to stay there all evening. Dante, Nick and Anja’s lovely dog, added to the homely feel too. Nick and Anja have put so much care into turning an old manor house into a charming boutique hotel. The interiors and outdoor spaces are beautiful and well kept, with a warm, stylish feel throughout. Their hospitality was what made it special, though. They welcomed us like old friends, and we’ll definitely return.

The room had high ceilings and consistently good details, and we liked the outdoor space and pool area. Some parts of the grounds seemed unfinished, though, and on one day the pool hadn’t been cleaned. The water was cloudy, so we didn’t feel like swimming. The bigger issue was service. We’ve stayed at several Masseria and similar places in Italy in recent years, and this one compared poorly. At times the communication felt curt, and every day the hosts disappeared for a while around the middle of the day. It gave us the impression they were a little tired of having guests. Dinner was only available on one of our four days, despite the website saying it’s served daily. We were told making dinner every day took too much time, and they didn’t want to spend so long shopping and cooking. The luxury image on the website didn’t match what we experienced or the price. If you’re considering a stay in Puglia, I’d strongly suggest looking at other options. We also stayed at a Masseria 30-40 minutes away where the service was on a completely different level, and we felt welcomed and cared for. Our stay at SA Suites was a mixed experience.

Anja and Nick made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. They’re warm, thoughtful hosts who were always happy to help, and they’re the reason our stay felt so special. The room was spotless, nicely decorated, and wonderfully peaceful. The bed was so comfortable that we haven’t slept that well in ages. We’d love to come back.

A car is a good idea if you want to visit the pretty towns and cities nearby. There are also lovely views and trails for walking or cycling around the area, so bring comfortable shoes. We had a peaceful, relaxing long weekend in a clean, modern place. Anja and Nick were so friendly, and made us and the other guests feel at home. Anja’s food was delicious. We’d definitely return.
