In 15 years of traveling around Europe, I’ve never had such a disgusting experience. I booked an apartment for two nights on the day I was due to arrive and traveled there by train from another city. I messaged the owner to say I was coming, but there were no check-in instructions in the booking, and my messages went unanswered. When I reached the apartment, I texted that I had arrived and called 5.. 10 times, all with no answer. It began raining, and for 1.5 hours I was soaked, trying to find out how to get in. Booking couldn’t reach the owner either. I’d paid for the night, but was left with the prospect of sleeping on the street, so I had to find somewhere else. The owner showed up in the morning. Instead of apologizing for the trouble, he responded with dozens of attacks and reproaches. He said check-in was until 7 p.m. That’s true, and I don’t dispute it. I arrived at 8 p.m. There was no apology or effort to make things right, just the insistence that check-in is from 3-7 p.m., four hours a day. I still had to check into the apartment later because I’d paid for two nights, with payment online and in advance only. I work in another city and couldn’t wait until 3 p.m., so in the evening I could only arrive around 7:30-8 p.m. The landlord replied: “Unfortunately, we cannot check you in at this time. You can request a cancellation of the reservation without a penalty, if we agree.” I knew not to expect humane treatment, tact, or any flexibility. I asked Booking to cancel and attached screenshots of the owner’s messages. A few days later, Booking replied that the owner hadn’t agreed to cancel without a penalty. The owner is a fraudster! I was denied check-in without good reason and lost 2 paid nights. He’s an inhuman boor, taking pleasure in his inflexibility and rigidity. -100000.
