Hotel Double Tree by Hilton Trieste

The spa was closed while we were there, which was the only downside. Apart from that, we had an excellent stay and I’d definitely return to the DoubleTree by Hilton in Trieste. The hotel is elegant and beautiful, and our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotless, including the shower. I also used the gym, which was well equipped and easy to use. The receptionist who greeted us on arrival was fantastic, very professional, kind, and friendly. I really wish I could remember her name.

Trieste is a great city, and we hope to come back one day. When we do, we’ll stay here again. The hotel is lovely, the staff are wonderful, and the location makes it easy to walk to anything you might want. We enjoyed our stay and only wish it had been longer.

The people working here are what made the hotel special. Reception, restaurant staff, and the gentleman who helped with our suitcases and explained how to get to the parking all made sure we had a wonderful stay. The city can be confusing on a first visit, but they made things easier. We arrived 2 hours early and they let us into our room ahead of schedule. Breakfast was excellent, with all the ingredients still available no matter when we came down. The rooms were tidy and comfortable, and everything is just a few minutes’ walk away thanks to the great location. The hotel chain’s standards are high, but it’s the staff who really set this place apart.

The rain was a shame during my first visit to Trieste in February, but it did give me time to try some hotel facilities I might otherwise have skipped. The spa area is a pleasant place to relax for an hour, and the gym is open 24 hours. Unlike in some hotels, the gym has toilets that can also serve as a changing room, so there’s no need to walk through the hotel in workout clothes. My lifetime diamond status got me an unsolicited upgrade to a spacious suite, which was especially nice since I spent more time inside because of the weather. There was also a welcome drink and chocolates in the room. The suite was a great fit for my first stay here. The building makes a strong impression as soon as you enter the attractive reception area, and the service lives up to it. The staff were quick, friendly, and happy to answer all my questions, even the unusual ones about the lotteria degli scontrini. On the 1st floor, the bar, restaurant, and meeting rooms still have the building’s traditional style, and I particularly liked the library area. Getting here by train is easy, about a 15-minute walk from the station. There are taxis there too, and plenty of buses around, though I never needed one. I was very happy with this impressive hotel and will have to find time to return to Trieste, hopefully in a few months when the weather is better.
