Book ahead, whatever you do. We tried to get in without a reservation the first night and couldn't. The food made the evening, a traditional Slovene and Italian mix, served beautifully and cooked with real heart. We ate indoors because it was too cold and windy on the back terrace. If walking is difficult for you, as it is for me, there's level access to the restaurant and toilets, and a lift to the terrace when the weather allows. The Hotel Valeria Restaurant sits above Trieste township on the ridge, and the service was great too.

The dinner was very good, and our waiter was incredibly friendly. The staff were welcoming and focused on good service, and the rooms were clean. I'd come back if I get the chance.
