Hotel Villa Nazareth

The hotel is in a good location with a beautiful view, and the staff, including housekeeping, were kind. But that’s not enough for a positive review. It may only be a one star hotel, yet the lack of care is hard to excuse. The bedspread and headboard were stained enough to make you feel sick, and there was a small bar of soap with hair left in the shower. I also saw plants desperate for water, communal bathrooms being used to store mattresses and duvets, and large black bags with walls ruined by damp. In one of those rooms, I thought there might be a shower. Outside, a courtyard flowerbed had become a dump of rubble, old doors, and a toilet. Simple, no-frills service is fine, but this is too much. The place should be closed down.

We had to cancel because of serious problems with our reservation, and I asked if any of the cost could be returned. They kindly said the owner would call to discuss it, but nobody ever got back to me and they kept the money. I know cancelling doesn’t mean you’re entitled to a refund, whatever, but don’t pretend to be polite if you won’t follow through.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The hotel is outside the center, but several cultural sites are an easy 20-minute walk away. The continental breakfast buffet and lunch were good, if not exceptional. Lunch included a starter, main course, and side dish.

The look is dated, but my room was clean and the staff were really friendly. Breakfast was okay, and it was enough for what I needed for one night. €40 felt well spent. I’d happily stay again if I needed to.
