Maximilian Suites

The staff at the restaurant and reception were lovely and helpful, and the hotel allows pets. Still, I wouldn’t choose this place again. We booked a first-floor apartment with a kitchenette. The layout was okay, but it badly needs a full remodel. Everything felt old, from the floors to the duvet cover and window treatments. There was plenty of storage in the living room, along with a desk, a table, a TV, and a couch too small to sleep on. The bedroom was small but had a good sea view. The bed and mattress weren’t comfortable and could use an upgrade, or at least a better cleaning. The bathroom was spacious and had a bathtub. The kitchenette was the reason we booked, but it needs updating too. It had a small fridge, microwave, dishwasher, dishes, glasses, cutlery, and an old electric cooker that smelled of burnt oil as soon as I switched it on, so I couldn’t use it. The views from the hotel are great, but there’s a noisy street right outside, and traffic made it hard to keep the windows open for long. If you don’t plan to drive or take a bus, the hotel is too far from town. Walking into Trieste means a long route beside a very busy road, mostly without pedestrian walkways. You have to cross that road whenever you leave, whether you’re going for breakfast or back to your car. The parking lot is across it, and breakfast is served at the Hotel Riviera restaurant on the other side as well. We also couldn’t find anyone when we arrived. For some mysterious reason, reception is at Hotel Riviera, which we hadn’t been told. The property is called Maximilian's Residence, so having the desk at a different hotel was confusing, especially with no note on the door. Really, didn’t anyone think tourists might be confused?

I’m very disappointed. The Hotel Riviéra part was perfect when I stayed there, but now we’re in Maximalian and it’s disgusting. There’s a bad smell everywhere, and the furniture is odd. After this experience, I won’t choose Riviéra either.
