Residence Sissi

Across from the train and bus stations, Sissi Residence is conveniently situated. My room was on the fourth floor. Someone left the elevator door open twice, the bathroom always smelled, and the shower needed maintenance. The bed was clean, though the mattress sagged in the middle. The AC worked well, but getting into the room meant unlocking and closing two doors, and voices from the neighboring rooms carried through. The faucets were noisy too, because a pressure pump kicked in to provide enough water pressure. There was no microwave, washing machine, or breakfast.

The location was convenient, but the quality for the price wasn’t great. The bathroom floor was cracked, and I had to hold the shower head because its bracket didn’t work. There was no soundproofing, so we accidentally heard all our neighbors’ conversations.

Everything was clean, thanks to the lovely cleaning lady, but the apartments felt very bare and disappointing. They’re on the fourth floor of an old building, where one large apartment has been divided into several units. The rooms have connecting doors and are so noisy that it feels like a neighbor could walk in at any moment. There were no pictures or wall hooks for coats. We also had water damage and a blocked toilet pipe in our bathroom, caused by guests who had stayed before us. The floor flooded and the smell was unbearable. A competent plumber arrived after a few hours, but repairs took longer. From around 8:30 a.m. until the afternoon, we had no toilet, shower, or water. We already felt uncomfortable there, so we left a day early. We’ve always stayed in Airbnb apartments in Trieste before and had fantastic experiences. We regretted making an exception this year.

In just one night, I had to put up with an awful mix of rudeness, carelessness, and very blatant predatory behavior. I feel sincerely sorry for anyone who had to pay in advance and stay longer. I’m holding back one star.
