The only possible downside was having to smell the cakes Farah baked each morning, they smelled almost torturously good. There were plenty of savory and healthy breakfast options too. We stayed just under two weeks, traveling with two teenagers, so I don’t hand out ratings like this easily. The charming building has plenty of history and character, and the rooms and bathrooms were bright, airy, elegantly furnished, well appointed, and spotless. Right in the heart of Tropea, everything is close by. Mr Mario is a true gentleman, helpful and respectful of privacy. He and Farah went the extra mile, helping with arrival and departure by plane, train, or car, and sharing their knowledge of local life and the best things to do.

We found this place very hard to locate, with no street signs. Our train from Naples was delayed by two hours on the Italian Line, so we arrived late for check-in. The owner appeared eight minutes before midnight, charged us a 500-euro no-show fee, and deleted our Booking.com reservation. We were put in an attic room without windows, and the furniture and other amenities were shabby. When I asked how that could be, since we’d been promised a beautiful room with furniture and a sea view, they told us there were no sea-view rooms and that we got what we paid for. They also said the photos of the beautiful interior on Booking.com had been posted by the site owners themselves, not them. Be careful with these guys.

The apartment is very large, and the staff and owner were friendly and quick to respond. When anything came up, they dealt with it promptly. It’s simple and a five-minute walk from the sea, but far from shops. The terrace needs renovating.

The nightly price is fantastic, and breakfast is included and delicious. The place was very clean, right in the center, and the people running it were attentive and friendly. If I come back to Tropea, I’d definitely stay here again.

The owner runs the place impeccably and makes delicious desserts. Set in Tropea’s historic center, it feels like stepping back to the time of Louis XIV, a beautiful setting for a pleasant, romantic weekend.
