River Hotel

The staff who welcome you are lovely, kind, and happy to help with advice. It's an easy place to get around from: Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the Gran Madre church are about a 15-minute walk, while Mole Antonelliana takes around 20 minutes. There's also a nice walk along the long Pozzo. You can usually find street parking, and Car2Go buses can get you there too. The neighborhood has plenty close by, including restaurants, bars, piadina places, traditional food, a big supermarket, the "Ziccat" chocolate shop, a little market each morning, and several banks and pharmacies. The rooms are spacious, though dated, and the bathrooms could do with a makeover. They are cleaned well every day, so for the price it feels acceptable. Nice enough for a night or two.

The staff were so available and kind that they made up for the hotel's basic, budget feel. Even with heavy traffic outside, the double-glazed windows kept the noise out. Bus 61 stops close by and goes to the city center and the terminus at Porta Nuova Station. Restaurants, pizzerias, and bars are all within walking distance, which makes this a good choice for a short stay at a fair price. If I come back to Turin, I'd stay here again. It may be worth checking with the hotel directly when booking, since their price might be lower than what's advertised online. Just make sure you check what's included.

Google lists free Wi-Fi, but there isn't any. The window is in poor shape and its double pane doesn't work, while the radiator is tucked into a corner instead of under the window in this large room. There are exposed live wires behind the bed, the toilet has no seat, and there's a strange smell. The bathroom is filthy and neglected, with mold low on the wall and a handle that won't shut the door. The shower is disgusting, with lots of white silicone visible, and even though there's air conditioning, the water drains into the shower. The rooms are gloomy, the 18th-century furniture is poorly kept, and the maintenance is bad all around. This is closer to a 1-star place than a 3-star hotel. I'm not coming back and wouldn't recommend it.

For 60 euros, it was a reasonable deal. The room was pleasant, the beds were good, and the hotel was simple but clean. The bathroom was clean too, though its old sealant was decayed and dirty. Breakfast was pretty poor: rolls from the oven, coffee only, no butter, and very few toppings. The staff from Asia didn't speak English.
