Palafavera never refunded the cancelled three-person booking, even though I had reserved it under the “BeSafe Rate Cancellation Policy,” which said I could cancel for free and receive up to 100% of the prepaid amount back. When one person couldn’t come, I cancelled that reservation and booked again for two. I got confirmation that the first room was cancelled, but no refund. I tried contacting Palafavera several times in different ways and got no reply. During our stay, we also tried to speak to someone in person, but every worker said there was nobody higher up available to talk to. In the end, I paid for both the three-person room and the new two-person room, although we only used one room for two people. Had I known the advertised full refund wouldn’t be honored, I would have kept the three-person booking and just had two people stay in it. Extremely frustrating and disappointing.

The food was good, though nothing special. The location is convenient, right by the ski lifts, but the restaurant staff could be more welcoming.

They even packed breakfast so we could get an early start. The staff were amazing: they fed us well, made me a drink that wasn’t on the menu, and brought over an ice pack when they saw me limping after I injured my knee on the Alta Via 1.

We weren’t guests at Palavafera, but they kindly let us leave our car overnight just outside their Rifugio, completely free and safely. We were heading up Monte Civetta to spend the night at Rifugio Tissi, so that kindness meant a lot. They’re lovely people, an absolute gem, and I hope this review helps spread the word about what they did. They also have a pretty fireplace to enjoy with food or drinks.

We got an email saying check-in was available from 2:30, but then had to wait outside in the cold until the refuge opened at 6pm. An hour of waiting in the cold really wasn’t fun, and without that I’d have given five stars. The room was very modern and good quality, and the big fire downstairs was fantastic. We enjoyed dinner too, though it was a bit pricey.
