The wood fire and the view of the trees, rocks, and mountain peaks give La Sponda a setting that feels more like a Lord of the Rings set than an ordinary restaurant. I’ve gone three times with my boyfriend, and the food has amazed me every visit. I’ve traveled around Italy and haven’t found anything else that combines such great flavor with healthy food. The mushroom risotto Ms Eliana made for me was my first, and nowhere else I’ve been has come close to it. I think the family ownership across generations explains how much care goes into the food and making a visit memorable. They want you to come back, and I love the food!

Good for big groups, and there’s a TV to keep any kids who need distracting occupied. The open fire is lovely, too. They serve traditional Italian mountain food, with plenty of polenta and some unusual meats, donkey included.

I’ve been coming to the hotel and La Sponda restaurant in Valleve Foppolo for a long time, and I’ve always enjoyed my stays. The owners are friendly and ready to help with every need. The rooms are clean and suit the mountain setting, and the food is delicious from the starters and main courses right through to chef Eliana’s homemade desserts. The polenta taragna is spectacular! It’s 3 km from Foppolo and San Simone on the road to Foppolo, and works well for families in both summer and winter. A must try!
