Casa Capanno

We had a fantastic night here in March 2019, and Cinzia made everything easy. We messaged when we arrived and she came over to show us around and answer questions. Her English was good, so communication was no problem. The home is tucked off the main road, where cars can pass quickly, though drivers were friendly to people walking by. There was coffee and a few other things for sale, clearly marked with prices, plus pasta and homemade sauce. Cinzia even brought over more sauce to choose from. We had a little jar of the hot one, then drove into town to buy meat for dinner. The locals spoke little English but were so friendly, and we managed fine. The lake was low, and in any case it was far too cold for swimming. We did enjoy the sauna. Remember to switch it on ahead of time, especially when it's cold outside. We'd happily come back. Cinzia was a terrific host, and the waterfront home gave us a lovely sense of seclusion with gorgeous scenery. It's right on the Como shoreline at the Varenna and Lierna border. Lierna is the easier walk, about ten minutes from its train station, and the town itself is quaint and small. For the main parts of Varenna, you'll need a taxi. Highly recommend it.

Those sunset dinners with the legendary Comolli are still such good memories. The food and company were fantastic, so of course I had to give my friends five stars.
