Hotel Colonne

We ended up leaving a night before our booking was over. For an allegedly 4 Star Hotel, it was a pretty poor experience. The room was outdated, and when we asked the owner to move us because the noise was intolerable, he was rude and offered no solution. Some restaurant staff were arrogant, and the hours for food service were inflexible. There were good points: we liked the location and the excellent restaurant, and breakfast had a good variety of quality food.

The food was stunning, with the gnocchi the best I’ve ever had. One night we tried the six course tasting menu, and it was exquisite. We stayed at the hotel for three nights and loved the great service and lovely Lago Varese views. Absolutely stunning, and we’d definitely come back.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Colonne with friends. We had dinner at the restaurant on three nights, and every meal was delicious. Twice we chose the Chef's Choice Menu, and each one was imaginative and different. Great value, too.

Slow, inconsistent service is why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. It doesn’t match the rest of the experience, though we hope it improves. We’ve been coming here whenever we visit Italy for 14 years and love the atmosphere, views, food, and wine list. The food is always high quality, both classic and inventive. Portions are just right, leaving us full without being too much or too little. The wine list is great, and we’ve always received good advice. We’ll probably keep coming back for another 14 years whenever we visit Italy.
