B&B Vico Minghetti

When I arrived in Veglie on the afternoon of August 16, 2018, the town seemed deserted. There was nobody around, the street smelled bad, and chains on the shutters made the place look scary. I searched the alleys until I found directions for the B&B, then called the owner, who arrived about 30 minutes later. The reception was a terrible sight: dirty floors, black bags by the chairs, breakfast tables still set from that morning, ashtrays full of cigarette butts, and laundry hanging on a clothesline. I was frightened and asked where we were supposed to sleep. The guy said it was in the next room and offered to take me there, then asked me to pay the balance without giving me a receipt. I was panicking and had my 8-year-old child with me, so I paid because I was afraid I might not find another place and would have to stay. The room turned out to be a garage, renovated but with no windows or vents. The bathroom had no window, a makeshift door to the bedroom, and a shower under the stairs with a plastic curtain. It didn't seem hygienic. The room smelled unpleasantly of mold and was hot and humid. In a panic, I ran outside crying. My husband, son, and I took the keys and drove away to find somewhere else because we had no intention of spending 2 days in that garage. I returned the keys later that afternoon, but the owner wasn't home. My husband called to say we were leaving and wanted to return them. The owner said he was mortified and sorry 😏😏. We left the keys on the table and went to Lecce, where we found a wonderful B&B. This was a complete scam, because the photos on booking don't reflect reality. Be careful!
