Camping Rialto

We were turned away by the receptionist, who was hostile and extremely rude from the start. He discriminated against my friend because of their disabilities, and we were left in shock. He treated us like intruders and demanded our IDs straight away, even though we were simply there to check in. When we tried to ask about checking in, he cut us off with, “I have asked you something.” He seemed irritated that we had no reservation, despite the kind woman on the phone saying one wasn’t needed, even late at night, and also seemed annoyed at having to explain the prices. People in Italy are usually understanding about assistance dogs, but he wasn’t. My friend showed their disability and assistance dog ID cards so they wouldn’t have to pay the dog fee. He told them, “you don’t look like you have a problem to me,” then shouted at us to leave. That was ableism. Thankfully, Camping Venezia Village was still open for a few minutes at 23h and gave us a very pleasant welcome. They didn’t even ask for proof of the assistance dog. We also went to the police, who called the manager. The manager apologized and made clear to the receptionist that this behavior wasn’t acceptable. Huge thanks to the local police station for handling it respectfully and trying to help despite the language barriers. I hope this doesn’t reflect the other staff or the usual experience, and that it doesn’t happen again.
