The worst part started before we even got inside. For weeks, the host kept asking when we'd arrive, and we updated him as we traveled. Still, at 4:30 PM he didn't answer the gate, our messages, or our calls. We waited outside until his elderly mother let us in. She spoke no English and seemed to have been left without support. When we finally got hold of the host, he first said two hours, then changed that to 9 PM. With no nearby places open except a casino, we had to pay to go in just to get food while we waited. When he did show up at 9, there was no apology or responsibility. He argued when we said how upset we were about the silence and chaotic check-in, then told us to leave if we didn't like it and said he'd refund us. We stayed only because our next day in Venice was already booked up with tours, leaving no time to find somewhere else at the last minute. The listing showed a kitchen, so although we knew breakfast wasn't included, we expected to be able to make coffee or heat food. Guests aren't allowed to use the kitchen at all, which felt misleading given the photos. The house also smelled unpleasant as soon as we entered. The walls were so thin we could hear people arguing in other rooms, and the beds were rock hard. It wasn't a restful stay. Between the host's rude behavior, lack of communication, the misleading listing, the noise, and the beds, this was one of our worst accommodation experiences. I feel obligated to warn other travelers and strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

Getting here from the airport was easy, and the place is quiet with the bus to Venice right there. The host was lovely and very helpful.

We only needed a room for the evening while connecting outside Venice, with a very early flight the next morning. Enrico was ready at 4:15am to drive us, which saved a lot of stress since the buses had been unreliable. The ride was 20 euro, a little less than the Ubers. The room was clean and quiet, with big windows and extra blankets available. The beds were small but spotless and more comfortable than expected. Enrico also suggested places for dinner, though we ate near the airport because there aren't many options nearby. This isn't a luxury hotel. For somewhere to sleep at a fraction of the cost of other Venice lodging, with an excellent host, it works really well.

Casa del Miele is right by the airport, which makes it a great find if you're flying through Marco Polo. Enrico speaks excellent English and is knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating. Ask him about Venice or getting to and from the island, and his advice is almost like getting a free room. He knows how things work around here. Staying on the island can cost 5 to 10 times more, and then you'll understand the LUGgage joke. Ciao.

We picked this place because it was close to Marco Polo Airport and seemed like an easy walk before our flight back to the States. We only wanted somewhere to sleep and weren't expecting much. The walk follows a busy road, with some sidewalk and some stretches along the highway. If you're comfortable with that, it's manageable. If not, take a taxi. We couldn't justify paying 20 euro to avoid walking a mile. Finding the entrance was confusing. There are two gates, one with flags and another about 20 feet away on a side street, which is the one to use. Someone buzzed us in. There were several doors, and when one finally opened, the man inside didn't greet us or explain where to check in. He just let us stand there for a few seconds before telling us to come in. It was hot outside, and the house felt even hotter. The room was very dark, even with the lights on. He asked for our passports, which caught me off guard, so my boyfriend went out to handle check-in while I sat on the porch for a while. When I felt better and came back, my boyfriend and the host were arguing about extra money. We'd booked and paid through booking .com six months earlier, including taxes, but the host said the taxes had gone up since then. We had printed the confirmation and saved emails showing we'd paid, but he wouldn't accept them or let us use the Wi-Fi to prove it. He called booking .com, and they hung up on him. We'd stayed at another place in Venice during the same trip, booked at the same time, and hadn't been charged extra taxes there. I was so fed up I said we'd go back to the airport, use its Wi-Fi to find somewhere else, and dispute the charge with booking .com once home. After I said that, he stopped arguing and turned on another hallway light. The place had been so dim that a candle would have seemed brighter. He showed us the room. My boyfriend said no one knew where we were and that the host could technically kidnap us. He went back and paid, and the host offered change, but we told him to keep it. He returned with the room keys and the Wi-Fi password. The bed was barely softer than the floor. The bathroom was two steps down, and I couldn't find the toilet paper at first, then spotted half a roll behind the toilet. There were only two large towels. A roll-down shutter meant we couldn't open the window. We couldn't work out how to turn on the AC, so we messaged through the booking. Com app. The host replied four days later, saying he was only just checking messages. We spent the night sweating. The walls were so thin that the man next door snoring felt like he was in our room. You also need a key to get in and out through the gate around the property. I didn't like it.
