Chowdhury House

We were a family of three, including our five-year-old son, and found this a clean, safe place to sleep at a reasonable price. It’s simple accommodation with good value for money. Chowdhury House is easy to reach by public transport: the bus station is under five minutes away, and Mestre train station is about a ten-minute walk. Frequent bus number 2 reaches Central Venice in less than 15 minutes.

The main problem was the noise, which kept waking me through the night and left me short on sleep. The walls let through conversations from the other guests in the five rooms, doors, toilets and showers, as well as the Italian family and small child upstairs. The door mechanism was especially loud, and seemed broken. A café also had live music until midnight on two nights. If noise bothers you, bring earplugs or avoid this room. There were some good points: the apartment was clean, the host was friendly, professional, kind, and responsive, and the kitchen had a fridge, microwave, and dishes. Mestre station is about a six-minute walk, with a nine-minute train ride to old Venice. Other drawbacks: there was no Wi-Fi, despite earlier complaints from other visitors, no mosquito nets or stove, and just one bathroom for five rooms.

For the price, the location is good, about a 5-7 minute walk from Mestre station. The room was clean and newly refurbished, with its own bathroom.

A nice place to stay. The area felt maybe a little unsafe late at night, but otherwise it was okay.
