Monti Guesthouse

We booked two months ahead, but a week before the trip I noticed from the check-in emails that our room had been changed. Nobody discussed it with us. When I contacted the host, they said it was a mistake and gave no apology, explaining that another family had booked five days and they couldn't move them because we were staying only three. We were left with the choice of taking a different room or cancelling.

Our flight was cancelled, so we reached the booked apartment around 23:30. When we tried to get in, someone else was in our room. The host sent us to a hotel instead, and the room there was awful: moldy, tiny, dirty, and noisy because there was no sound insulation. At first, the host said the person in our room hadn't moved out; later they said it was double-booked. We asked them to sort it out, but got more promises and lies. In the end we gave up and requested a transfer through hotels.com. That worked, but the host who lied faced no consequence.

The room was clean and a decent size, but getting into the property felt like solving a puzzle. The bus makes it easy to reach Venice, though I didn't feel very safe in the Mestre area where the place is. The room walls are thin, too. You can hear everything going on in the next room, so keep that in mind :)

The room was clean and welcoming, and I had a lovely stay. Host Livio was especially kind and helpful. I'd happily recommend it to anyone visiting Mestre and the surrounding area.
