La Locanda Al Lago

The owner and service were wonderful, and the suggestion to trek to the nearby nature reserve made our Italy trip a memorable experience. I'd have given five stars, but the traffic was deafening.

An old-style hotel, but it's very clean and cheaper. The owners are available and willing to meet your requests.

There was a sewage smell everywhere, and we could hear every word and other noises from the next room. Our room was incredibly dirty, with spider webs and clumps of dust. The walls were dirty too, and the furniture was scratched and dirty. On the reception desk there was a picture of the burned Star of David.

Getting to the actual Lake Maggiore means a long walk, since the lake in the photos is uninhabited and you can't swim there. The B&B itself was a real letdown too. There were cobwebs, dust and hair all over, worn-out furniture, and clear signs that upkeep had been neglected. I didn't feel comfortable staying overnight because of how poor the hygiene was. It's a shame, as more care with cleaning and maintenance could make it welcoming, but I can't recommend it as it is.
