I ended up here for an unplanned overnight stop and had a really nice stay. The staff were helpful and spoke a little English. It’s a pleasant little town, with local amenities within walking distance, including a takeaway kebab place for a quick, cheap, tasty meal. I also enjoyed the history, and found the people cheerful and helpful.

I came after seeing the place on TV, where Italian-American actor and food lover Stanley Tucci highly recommended it. The Michelin-starred restaurant lived up to that, with a wonderful meal, excellent service, and a wine selection from the owner that was just as good. The chef brothers, who are the owner's sons, have put real work into creating a lovely menu from local produce, especially Piedmont rice. The rooms are nice, fairly priced, and in a quiet spot, though the simple old motel appearance doesn’t hint at the food. I hope to return soon.

The family running the restaurant made us feel very welcome, with the two brothers cooking and their mother in the dining room. Service was warm and unpretentious. We let the chef choose for us and loved every bite: crispy sweetbread with almonds, raw fish with vanilla, risotto with coffee powder, and rigatoni with tomato followed by mint ice cream. Don’t let the surroundings put you off, the food is delicious.

The food was delicious, and there’s a very good parking lot. The location works especially well if you’re travelling by car. We stayed for a few nights in July 2017 and found the staff friendly.

Christian & Manuel’s Michelin-starred restaurant is housed in the hotel. It’s Vercelli’s jewel, and worth a trip to the city all by itself.
