The rooms were tidy and had conditioner, and I have no complaints about the rooms themselves. That’s why I gave four stars. The rest left a bad impression. Two men ahead of me were quoted 75 euros for a room, but as a foreigner I was suddenly quoted 80, and we needed two rooms. Booking showed 75 euros too, though the hotel would have had to pay commission that way. There was also a dispute over the city tax for our 8-year-old. The older woman at reception that evening didn’t speak English and insisted we had to pay, even though the rules posted on the wall said children under 14 weren’t subject to the tax. We had to ask and prove our child was exempt. In three weeks in Italy, this was the first hotel where we had to do that. The tax was 4.50 per person, which is the rate for a four-star hotel according to official Verona authority data. Next time, I’d rather pay through Booking.
