Hotel Gabbia d'Oro

On a busy street full of foot traffic, this old hotel is a peaceful place to duck into and escape the crowds. It has a great location, welcoming staff, and a good breakfast, so there’s no need to go elsewhere for one. Our room was very clean and just large enough.

I wish I could live here. Everything was perfect: a beautiful hotel with charming rooms, lovely owners, and kind, helpful, friendly staff. Breakfasts were wonderful, especially the morning omelettes, the best I’ve ever had. This boutique hotel is hard to beat. It’s in a historic building in the centre of Verona and was perfect for a few days.

The breakfast was amazing, with a great selection, coffee, fresh juice, prosecco, eggs made to order, and cosy, warm, attentive service. It was one of the best breakfasts we’ve had in Italy across many stays in different cities, and really memorable. The service was generous and very good. We were torn between a 4 and a 5, but the offer of espresso while we waited for our airport cab tipped it to a 5. We found the central, old-style, eclectic hotel warm and relaxing. The rooms don’t match modern 5-star hotels, though. Ours, room 403, could use some updating, but that might take away its charm. The bed and pillow were a bit hard. Our room faced the street and the nearby square, and quite a lot of noise came in late in the evening and into the night. If you want quiet and a good night’s sleep, the courtyard-facing rooms are probably the better choice. The location is very central, which makes it easy to head out and take short breaks while shopping. I’d recommend the hotel to people who can accept a few small imperfections and enjoy the charm, relaxation, food, and service. You’ll be rewarded.

The Piazza setting is picture-perfect, and even though the hotel is right there, it stays quiet. Staff were easy to deal with, really helpful and friendly, and the valet service was great. A fantastic boutique five-star hotel.
