Dinner was the best part of our night at Borgo Cadonega, the food was great. Still, the music was so loud it got in the way of the meal, our white wine had no cooler even though it was over 30°C, and nobody brought olive oil for the bread. Breakfast was poor as well. Three staff members saw us arrive, but we waited 10 minutes before I went to ask for coffee. They seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than helping guests. Our room was fantastic, spacious, and had everything we needed. We did get woken in the middle of the night by loud laughter and conversation from a group of women in the next room. After driving 2000 km, we’d hoped for a warmer welcome, but the service came with an attitude. Borgo Cadonega has potential, though the experience could be more relaxing with these things improved.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that the 90 min spa session was included. The rooms are big and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s in a great spot in the Emilia-Romagna wine region, with Bologna, Parma, Modena, and other nearby cities within reasonable driving distance. Breakfast came with the stay and was fine, though not outstanding. A wider choice of fresh fruit and vegetables would have been nice.

The Tesla Destination charger stops working when it rains and can stay out of order for the next week, until the technician who installed it comes back to fix the fuse. It seems to have been installed incorrectly: the metal shield keeps the type-2 power plug from being held properly in the wall-box.

A bit out of the way, but well worth the trip. Borgo Cadonega has an understated class and style that you don’t find in many American boutique hotels, and it would be a bargain at twice the price. Mauro and his staff welcomed us and showed us to a corner room overlooking the grounds. We had a wonderful stay, including a five-star dinner at the restaurant with outstanding local cheeses, meats, and wine. I’d highly recommend it.

Really relaxing and enjoyable. My one complaint is that the spa costs extra. For the price of the rooms, some access should be included.
