Hotel Rex

The street noise was the only real downside. The hotel is just a couple of minutes on foot from the train station, beach, and some good restaurants. Staff were really helpful and friendly, five stars for them. Had a lovely stay.

The staff were incredibly nice, the place was very clean and central, and there’s air conditioning. That’s why I’m giving it three stars, though it feels like a two-star hotel. The rooms and decor are basic, the bed is very soft, and there’s no lift. If all you need is a simple bed, it’s a reasonable choice: the other three-star hotels in town are only a little better but cost a lot more. For an Instagram-worthy stay, look elsewhere.

Right in the middle of town, a few steps from the seafront, and set on a quiet old road that looks like a postcard. The staff were about as nice as they could be, and the place was spotlessly clean. Cheap and cheerful, but lovely. Recommended.

I stayed here with a class through an arrangement between the hotel and our university. It was a quaint, cosy family-run place. My roommate and I had a separate room off to one side, so it was quiet, with a huge palm tree in the courtyard just outside the window. The view of Italian rooftops from the upper front windows was very romantic. In July, the air conditioning worked well. The bathroom had a folding accordion-style door rather than a regular one, so privacy wasn't the best, but it did the job. Breakfast was a small bar each morning with typical Italian food and even French croissants, maybe because French guests stay there often. I don't think the school uses this hotel anymore, though I'm not sure who decided to end the arrangement. It was a great stay while it lasted.
