Grand Hotel Angiolieri

We had a fantastic week here this summer. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great, and everyone we dealt with, from the bar and cleaning teams to the restaurant and reception staff, was wonderful. They cleaned the room twice a day, which I loved. The view is absolutely amazing, and it’s a romantic, quiet place. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. Just be aware that the location is farther from everything than we expected. Sorrento is a bit costly by taxi, and it’s a bit of a walk to Seiano, though I recommend going there. Having stayed at many five-star hotels before, we found the room small and the bed a little hard. Still, it was nice and peaceful.

My husband and I booked directly through the hotel website for our honeymoon. Our room on the 3rd floor had an amazing view of Vesuvius. The service was phenomenal: they arranged a private boat trip to Capri, made dinner reservations, and helped us plan lots of other things. They also made getting to the main sights easy. If I come back, I’ll definitely stay here again.

We didn’t stay a single night. After checking in, we saw the rooms and left immediately, but the hotel refused a refund for the unused nights and charged us about €1,000. I understand there was a cancellation policy. My issue was that the property didn’t match the five-star quality it advertises, and keeping nearly €1,000 for zero nights didn’t feel hospitable. The rooms felt like damp winter cottages rather than a coastal Italian retreat. The pool was chaotic, crowded, and not relaxing, and the standards seemed nowhere near what the hotel claims. Cleanliness and professionalism were concerns too. The staff said the owner wasn’t available, though she was next door and chose not to speak with us. Staff came across as condescending rather than accommodating. The owner seemed dismissive, and at one point stuck her foot out as we arrived until we looked at her. We were upset and asked direct questions, but we weren’t aggressive or intimidating. Writing that the place was a ripoff in the guest book was meant as an honest warning, not an insult. The hotel trades on the Amalfi Coast name, but it’s in VICO EQUENSE, which we found had little memorable to see or do. For an Amalfi experience, I’d choose Positano, Amalfi Town, or Sorrento instead. The whole atmosphere felt unpleasant and was the opposite of the Italian hospitality I expected. I saw a review claiming someone had been offered $5 for a five-star rating, which made me wonder about the positive reviews. The hotel’s reply focused on its refund policy and described us as aggressive, while ignoring the issues I raised: advertising, room quality, cleanliness, the crowded pool, and unprofessional conduct. It tried to discredit me personally rather than address those points. My review stands as a warning to future guests: this establishment doesn’t live up to its claims. We lost money, energy, and precious holiday time. Anyone looking for a five-star stay or lasting Italian memories should avoid this hotel and VICO EQUENSE. Choose somewhere else. The staff were amazing, the food was good, and the views were breathtaking. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back. Thanks to everyone for being so attentive and hospitable. The rooms could use an upgrade, and I’d like to see a little more variety on the menu.
