This apartment made a great base for three nights of outings around Vignanello and the Tuscia area of Viterbo, and it turned out to be a medieval adventure that ended too soon. It’s close to the central square, where the cathedral faces the imposing Ruspoli Castle, which is open to the public on weekends. You enter from Via delle Prigioni Vecchie, under an archway in the Palazzo Pretorio. The space is carved into the rock, with a curious mix of natural, ancient surroundings, deliberately somewhat baroque furnishings, and modern technology. It’s a little nest that grows on you quickly. Despite the setting, the apartment is bright. The kitchen is small but adequately equipped, with basics like mineral water, orange juice, oil, salt, breakfast cake, coffee, and herbal teas. There’s also a flat-screen TV with good channel reception, a kettle, and an electric oven. The bathroom fixtures had a few minor issues, likely because the apartment is so compact. Parking can be tricky given the central location, though in the low season we soon found spots within 50 meters.
