Casa San Martino

The house is just a stone's throw from the center, on a street that isn't too busy and keeps trucks away. The village itself is green and inviting, though there's no garden or balcony. We rented the whole house: the kitchen is basic but has enough utensils, and there's a fridge with a large freezer compartment. The bedrooms have air conditioning that works well and feels great in summer. The rooms are large and clean, with a shower, sink, toilet and bidet. Gian Maria, the landlord, is friendly, helpful and easy to reach, and he keeps appointments promptly and reliably. Good value for money for the region.

I slept very well and found the stay comfortable. The room was clean and really nice. The owner was very kind. The building is old and in the historic center, so the soundproofing understandably isn't the best.

The one bright spot was the owner's kindness. I paid 70 euros for a room in an old building, with no breakfast, and given how remote this village in the Mantua countryside is, that felt like too much. The room and bathroom were very large, but the furnishings were sparse. Loose wooden floors were noisy enough that at 5 in the morning I woke to the guest upstairs walking around. It sounded as though the floor was right beside my bed. I wouldn't recommend it.

The rooms are very spacious, and the accommodation is quiet despite being right in the center. It's handy if you're visiting patients at the hospital, which is less than a 10-minute walk away.
