I stayed here way back in 2007, and it seems the prices have barely gone up. It was fantastic! The rooms are very basic but clean and do the job. There’s a lovely pool and a restaurant with good food, but the best thing is the location, right next to the town center. We used the hotel as a base for driving around Tuscany. Definitely recommend!

After that long drive, the Tuscan views were stunning. We had a delicious meal, and the wild boar the staff suggested was a great choice. Everyone looked after us in a relaxed, friendly way.

Volterra’s center is walkable from the hotel, though the route is uphill. There’s plenty of free street parking nearby, and the large pool is open from 8am to 8pm. The room was comfortable and the air-conditioning worked well, but the bed felt too soft and creaked. The hotel doors close late, so let the staff know if you expect to get back after midnight.

Breakfast is included in the price and was decent, and our clean room had a comfortable bed. The hotel sits in a lovely spot close to Volterra’s old town. I do recommend it, though breakfast itself was marred by staff loudly talking over our heads while rearranging the room around us. It felt rude and unprofessional, and there was no need for it.

The restaurant is very inviting and the food was excellent. Villa Nencini is a small, family-run hotel just beyond Volterra’s walls, with lovely views over the Tuscan countryside. The center is only a 10-minute walk away, and there’s a large pool too.
