Sunscape Cove Montego Bay - All Inclusive

I’d read SO many reviews before we stayed on the cove side over the Christmas holiday, and they were right. The property and the view are nice, but the rooms badly need updating. There was rust and chipped tile everywhere, and clean bathroom towels were hard to come by. Only about ten percent of the staff were kind and hospitable. The other 90 percent acted like we were a bother. Coffee should be self-serve at the buffet. Still, my children, ages 8 and 11, loved it. Our ocean-view room was right in front of the water slides, but the noise wasn’t actually bad. Better hospitality training and updated rooms could make this place great. I’d suggest coming only if you have kids.

We got upgraded to an oceanfront room for free, and could step straight onto the beach from our balcony. The Cove side rooms are really nice, and both room service and maid service were great. We’d thought the Splash side was more for kids when we booked, but it’s definitely the other way around. This is a water park resort with lots of children, and the Cove is the kids’ zone. The buffet was great for the first three days, then the meals just kept repeating. Only one restaurant was open, with no reservations, so you had to wait in line. Water bottles were only 11oz, and the drink glasses were even smaller. The resort is older and doesn’t have much greenery. Spa services were outrageously priced, even with the coupon we got when we arrived. I’d give the resort 3 stars.

There were four of us, each in our own room, and we all had the same experience. Rooms were cleaned whenever the staff felt like it, and about 90% of the staff weren’t friendly. We couldn’t get beach towels, and if you didn’t go to dinner early, they ran out of food. For three nights, they were out of something I wanted. The ice cream machine was either broken or empty, and the 24-hour food was a joke. They had a pretzel machine that never had a pretzel in it, though I was told they’d had some before I came. We were there for six days. We won’t be back.

The beds were terrible, and the food was the worst I’ve had at any all-inclusive. We’ve been to 10+ over the last 4-5 years. I usually wouldn’t bother leaving a review this long afterward, but we stayed here in 2019 and I really, really recommend against it. The food wasn’t great, and service was fine as long as you were tipping. Stop tipping and the service stops. The club was terrible too, with music going until 2:00am every night. Jamaicans outside the resort were all the same: if you weren’t buying or tipping, they didn’t pretend to like you. Because they don’t.
