Tingalaya's Retreat

Tingalaya's Retreat is tucked into the cliffs and is beautiful, and we loved the quiet, peaceful feel away from the hustle and bustle. It’s quite a walk to the seven mile beach, so hiring a car might be ideal, though taxis should be available. If you’re prone to mosquitoes and other bugs, bring bug spray. What stood out most was the service: everyone was kind and made us feel right at home. We had a fabulous stay and would love to go back.

Our mornings were the best part: we’d swim in the saltwater pool before breakfast, then do yoga by the ocean. It was so peaceful, and we loved this start to our Jamaica vacation. The team made our arrival feel perfect, and everyone was helpful and friendly. The location is beautiful, away from busy, touristy Negril. We stayed in a cute, relaxing room on the beach side and fell asleep to the sound of the waves. Across the road, the larger part of the property has more rooms, a yoga shala, restaurant space, and a garden with fruit trees and chickens. There isn’t much traffic since it’s one of the last stops. We took road caps to Seven Mile Beach and Rick’s Café. A mini market nearby sells beer, water, snacks, and other basics, and there’s also a culture centre selling pastries. We were the only two people swimming early in the morning. We loved it!

Leaving was hard, and I hope to come back soon. This is a quiet, luxurious place surrounded by nature, with thoughtful rooms, lush grounds, and a small farm at the back. The seawater pool sits beside the cliffs, where little waves spill over the edge. There’s also a spacious yoga and multipurpose room, plus gardens leading down to a deck for evening meditation, yoga, or chats. The whole property feels carefully made by David. The staff made the stay just as special. Maureen, or Mo, cooked fresh breakfasts each morning and warmly learned guests’ names. Eleanor, also called Elena, manages the property and made sure we were comfortable, knew our way around, and had what we needed. She arranged sunset yoga, which was delightful. Jubi, the groundsman, helped with pool chairs and local recommendations. His gentle, calm manner added to the relaxing atmosphere. David was generous and responsive as host, and I’m grateful to him and the staff for all they do. Everyone was attentive, kind, caring, and personable.

I spent my 40th birthday here and had such a peaceful stay. The sunset views from our very clean room were stunning, and I loved the cliffside pool. Dave and manager Elena were responsive and helped arrange what we needed, including a massage and yoga on request. One of the employees even braided my hair when I asked. The owner and staff were so friendly, and the food was great. Tingalaya is a beautiful retreat and a rare find. I’d definitely come back. Thanks for making my birthday truly memorable!
