DeMontevin Lodge Hotel

On our road trip around the Jamaica coast, we spent one night at DeMontevin Hotel. The price and location worked well, and we had everything we needed. Our room had a private bathroom and a balcony overlooking the bay, plus Wi-Fi. A friend had a shared bathroom and found it fine too. It also looks like they now accept credit cards, despite what earlier reviews said. This isn't a Ritz Carlton or a luxury getaway. But if you're after old Jamaican charm and a comfortable place to sleep, it's worth checking out. Blue Lagoon and Noel Coward's villa, Firefly, are close by. Thanks to Caren and George for making us feel at home.

Not a comfortable stay at all. The bathroom door was coming off, and the front door lock felt weak. There were roaches in the room, which smelled old. We were put in a room at the back of the property where people could be seen bathing in the backyard. I was staying with a little girl, so seeing a man bathing under our window made us uneasy.

Christina Bowman. People's incomes vary, and staying at DeMontevin doesn't mean someone is cheap. Some are simply on a budget and can afford what they can afford. I'm content with very little myself. I grew up with a wealthy father who gave me everything and a light-complexioned mother who always had good jobs, but my father eventually became poor. Long story short, DeMontevin works for some people. I wish Port Antonio had more affordable, cheaper hotels.

For $3,500JA, we got a room with a bathroom, small TV, Wi-Fi, and a fan. One of the best deals we found. The house has a beautiful historic feel, though the rooms are otherwise sparse. The staff were wonderful. Thanks, Chad!
