The Blue House Gerasa

I loved the two roof terraces, especially the one with a great sunset view over the ruins. The Blue House was clean, with a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of places to hang out. Naeem was such a friendly host, and the price was very good. I had a perfect stay and would definitely recommend it.

The location has its good points: it’s in a quiet neighborhood, there’s off-street parking, and the main road with grocery stores and places to eat is within walking distance. The young guy who checked me in was nice and gave helpful dinner suggestions. The dorm beds were clean. But the place felt neglected and dirty. There was a musty smell and dusty knickknacks covering the walls and surfaces. The female dorm had no window. The kitchen table and counter were sticky, the trash cans were full, and I hesitated to even step into the shared bathrooms. I tried the shower in flipflops, but it wouldn’t drain, so I had to stand at the edge and couldn’t really shower. The bedding was clean, but the mattress sagged so badly that my butt made a crater I couldn’t get out of all night, and I’m not heavy. I was leaving around 9am, but nobody was at the front check-in table or anywhere else, so I left through the back door. Past reviews were great, so maybe it used to be better, but now it feels like it’s somehow past its prime.

We really recommend The Blue House for a stay during a trip to Jordan. The place is beautifully decorated, reasonably priced, and includes breakfast. The service was professional and friendly, and the roof had a lovely view of the ruins. Shukran for having us!

I’m sitting in the hostel now and it’s been a very pleasant stay. The private bedrooms are lovely, and the shower is powerful with nice hot water. As someone who works in digital marketing, I have a feeling the hostel was deliberately given a negative rating.
