Jabal Rum Camp

The atmosphere was peaceful, the views were unreal, and the hospitality was lovely. It all felt luxurious while still being calm. One of the best camps in Wadi Rum, no doubt!

Anyone planning to visit Wadi Rum should know that Jabal Rum Camp is one of the few places you can reach by road in a rental car, with standard insurance covering the drive. At other desert camps, a claim of free parking may only mean free parking at the village, where you’re told to meet staff for a ride to the camp. I’ve heard of guests being quoted JD20 per person, supposedly waived if they join a tour, then learning the amount is one way when they need a ride back. At that point they may feel stuck paying more or walking over 15 km to the village. If you say you’ll drive yourself, they may warn that the car could get stuck in sand. That might happen, but I was also told rental insurance likely wouldn’t cover it. If you persist, some may claim police will arrest you for driving in the desert. I don’t believe that’s true, as there’s no such prohibition. To me, the transport setup seems designed to keep guests dependent on the camp’s tours, and “free transport” feels like bait and switch. Another warning sign is when the actual address is never provided, even after booking. Some advertised rates are low, but meals and tours can add up when you’re far from anywhere and reliant on the camp. That wasn’t my experience at Jabal Rum Camp (JRC). The host was honest, and we could choose any tour operator. JRC can connect you with Qusay, a tour operator I used; his price was reasonable and he was honest to deal with. You can also go to Disah for meals. At other camps, you may be stuck buying their meals, which can cost a lot.

The hospitality was impeccable, and the landscapes were breathtaking. Every moment felt magical. This camp brings adventure, comfort, and authenticity together, making for a unique escape that exceeded my expectations. A truly extraordinary experience and a must-visit.

I spent four days in Jabal Rum and fell in love with the place and its staff. Anis, the owner, always made me feel at home, and the rest of the guys were kind too. They treated me so well that I’ll definitely be back soon.
