Oyado Sansui

I got a very decent deal for two nights by booking through the Japanese website. The food was great, the service friendly, and the dinner and breakfast menus were different on each day. I forgot to mention that I don’t drink, so the first night’s dinner came with a small glass of Japanese wine. The next day they switched it to juice for me. That was really warm-hearted of them. Thank you. Someone nearby played with fireworks one night, and I had fun watching.

They made our stay feel special with thoughtful little gestures. They showed us to the lounge while they handled check-in, so we could sit comfortably and wait. They even cleared snow off our rental car, which I hadn’t expected them to do for guests. This was the best Japanese-style ryokan we’ve come across. The Japanese bath is on the small side, but the service more than made up for it. The boss and staff don’t speak much English, but they tried hard to explain the facilities and services so we could understand.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The room was spacious, clean, and nicely heated through the winter. Staff were courteous and friendly throughout. Their English was limited, but Google Translate made communication easy.

The location, food, bath and service were all excellent. The staff don’t speak English, but they do their best. My only regret is that I didn’t book more days. I hope to visit again someday.
