Anan Station Hotel - Vacation STAY 11036v

During the busy Obon season this was the only inexpensive place I could find, and the room was roughly the size of a twin room. It seems like it may originally have been laid out for two beds lengthwise, which leaves it quite spacious as it is. The interior is old, and not as clean as a chain hotel, so that may bother some people. Still, the sheets were changed regularly and I didn't see a single bug. As others have mentioned, there are dogs. I saw one at reception, but it behaved well, and there is a bar so you don't need to worry about them coming near you. Thanks for the hospitality.

The building and lobby look pretty rundown, but the rooms are very clean. There's covered parking on the first floor. For motorcycles, going up the slope to the second floor gets you fully indoors parking, which is great.

You can choose a Japanese-style or Western-style room, though some rooms don't have a fridge. On the second floor, the lobby by reception has a shared refrigerator and microwave. The coin laundry and coffee shop are downstairs, and the cafe runs from 7am to 6pm. Breakfast is available only until 11am. The manager, Aki-chan, can be found in the parking lot beside the second-floor front desk, though she sometimes goes for walks and isn't there. She barks at people she doesn't like. There's a kettle in the room, useful for instant noodles and other food. The shower has plenty of hot water, but the toilet doesn't have a washlet. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothbrushes aren't provided in the room; soap and toothbrushes are available at reception, but bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Marunaka supermarket is a five-minute walk away and stays open until 10pm. Anan Station has staff, so you can buy tickets for longer distances and rent cars, but it's open only until 7pm.

This suits backpackers or anyone wanting a simple night without meals. If you're after a nice business hotel, this isn't the one. You can bring your dog without worry, and there's a cute Shiba Inu kept beside the front desk. Watch carefully when pulling in if you have a tall car. There aren't amenities, so bring what you need. A supermarket and convenience store are nearby for shopping, and you can use the microwave at reception or the kettle in your room to heat a bento or make cup ramen.
