I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to a woman traveling alone. My package didn’t include dinner, so I went to the restaurant at 6pm, but they said they couldn’t accept me and directed me to the front desk. I asked reception whether I could pay extra to eat at the restaurant, and they said no. When I asked where I could get food, they told me the nearby restaurants were closed and a convenience store was the only option. I went out alone and walked in the dark for almost 10 minutes. I was scared, and some areas didn’t have proper lighting.

Our room was on the fifth floor and had an ocean view. The onsen on the sixth floor also had a great view of the ocean. The room was big, with lots of space for our things. Breakfast used local ingredients and tasted delicious, though the menu was the same for both days.

The dinner alone made the trip to Aomori and Hotel Akitaya worthwhile for me. It was amazing. I’d absolutely come back, 10/10.

The onsen was great, and the room was comfortable, although a bit dated. Being by the seaside gave us a great view, and the food was delicious and made with local ingredients. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was satisfied with the stay and would recommend it.

We’d definitely come back. This was a pleasant surprise since it was the last hotel available during Nebuta and we expected more of a budget stay. The rooms and facilities are dated, but still nice. The kids loved the deep bathtub in the room, and Mom said Dad enjoyed the onsen, though it was a bit too hot. Both the dinner served in the room and the Japanese breakfast were impressive, and the service was excellent. After we got back from the Nebuta Matsuri, two big plates of onigiri and sliced fruit were waiting for us. A really nice touch after a long night at the festival.
