Hotel Ogawa

A lovely location at the end of the road through a beautiful valley, right on the riverbank, with a hot spring. The rooms were good, though an old, noisy air purifier kept me awake all night. I suppose I could've unplugged it.

The only issue I ran into was the outlet beside the bed. It looked like it was there for use, but it didn't work. The hot springs and meals were excellent.

The food was great, and they offer extra services for guests celebrating occasions like birthdays. There's also free pickup to and from the Shinkansen. The hotel is well cared for, and the hot bath is really good. I think most of the water comes from their own hot spring, so it's one hotel for one spring, which also has a cave bath. It makes for a quiet, cozy stay, since the road ends right at the hotel and it's the only one in the valley, unlike Kurobe gorge.

I especially liked the traditional Japanese breakfast, served Viking style as an all-you-can-eat buffet. Dinner was delicious too, with plenty of local foods, and there were lots of bathing options, including indoor and outdoor baths. The hotel is secluded, quiet, and surrounded by nature, making it just right for a weekend away. Some might find it dated, but it was clean and well maintained. The staff were kind and patient with our large group. I'd happily return and recommend it to anyone looking for an onsen getaway.
