HOTEL R9 The Yard Ashikagafukutomi

We had the same problem at another R9 The Yard where we stayed for the two nights before Ashikaga. At that location, they let us swap all our free light-meal vouchers for pillows and towels, since that cost them less. The Ashikaga hotel wouldn’t do that. We booked the largest room for us and our two toddlers, but there were only two towels and two pillows. Staff refused to provide any for the children. They said it would have been fine if the kids were elementary school age, even though the room price would have been the same. When I pushed, they eventually told us the children weren’t supposed to stay there at all, a restriction I couldn’t find on booking websites. They offered to charge me an extra 150 yen for a pillow and towel, but then still didn’t give me a pillow and told me to use a towel instead. They said head office doesn’t allow preschoolers, and they had to follow that rule. I still don’t understand why. It costs nothing to treat people decently. If you’re traveling with young children, think twice about staying here. Families with little kids clearly aren’t the target.
