The room was small but nice, and the location is hard to beat: right across from Bannaji and near several historical places to visit. Shampoo and body wash are in the bathroom, while you can ask at the front desk for the other amenities. The staff member I met was very welcoming. After I went out, he greeted me with “okaerinasamase” when I returned to the hotel.

Three tourist spots are close by: one is across the street, another is around the corner, and a third is about a 20-minute walk away. There’s also free parking around the corner. The staff were helpful and responsive, and tourists can borrow bicycles or use the free washing machines. For a budget stay, it’s well worth the price. As a business hotel, it delivered what I wanted: decent Wi-Fi, reasonably comfortable beds, and a satisfying continental breakfast with both Western and Japanese food. It’s one of the most enjoyable business hotels I’ve stayed in in Japan. The pillows were soft and fluffy, while the mattresses were very firm, which suits me nicely.

We spent nine nights at Wakaso in November 2023. It’s in a great spot, right opposite Banna Ji temple, and parking was free. Our room was clean, the staff were friendly, and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast.

We checked in for December 23-24, 2019, and found parking in the backyard. Our family had lowered our expectations after seeing a few photos online, but the hotel turned out to be good value, especially with free breakfast and Banna-ji temple right next door.

It’s a low-key place, but at this price I couldn’t ask for more. Just a three-minute walk to the Ashikaga School.
