Seiryu-so

We stayed one night in a room with a private onsen to celebrate our upcoming wedding, and the care from the staff was wonderful from the start. We missed our connection and were running late, but they still picked us up at the station. Everyone was patient and accommodating, and helped us feel comfortable despite the language gap. Knowing a little Japanese would be useful. Dinner was a lot of fun with our host. I’m sorry we didn’t catch your name, please let us know! Chef Fujimoto-san was amazing, and we showed how much we liked the meal by eating everything. At breakfast, the spread was so big that we were told, "Do your best!" They gave us a pair of chopsticks as a wedding gift. Since chopsticks sounds like bridge, meaning bridge, the gift came with the wish "a bridge to happiness". We’ll treasure them. We accidentally left them behind when we went to Osaka, but the staff kindly sent them to us by Yamato Transport Black Cat. We agreed we’d come back. Thank you very much. I had a wonderful time. The room was spacious and clean, with a lovely river and mountain view. We stayed three nights and had a great time. The minibar was free, and although there aren’t many restaurants nearby, staff could arrange food or even ice cream for the room. There’s also a restaurant at the hotel, but book ahead if you want to eat there. It was full when we tried, though we got lucky when someone cancelled. The traditional Japanese dinner was really well made. I’m not great with raw fish, and without me even asking, they fried mine instead. It was a nice surprise. We loved the spa and onsen, especially the Finnish sauna, which felt authentic to us as Finns. My partner has tattoos and could use the onsen after covering them. The staff were kind and apologetic about it. There’s also a private onsen to book if you’d rather avoid that hassle, and we enjoyed using it too. The only thing that felt a bit dated was the bathroom and toilet in the room, but it didn’t really bother us.

We were there in late September, outside the busy season, and only saw a few other guests. The staff were friendly and professional, and made us feel at home. Our room was huge and had its own onsen, and the facilities impressed us. We especially loved the Finnish sauna. I wish we’d booked the meal plan. The concierge was able to order food for us from a nearby sushi restaurant, though. It was a fantastic stay.

The food was delicious, and the value gets better if you stay a second night. I’d love to return and spend longer here. The inn is older, but it’s well cared for. Our enormous room had a bedroom, two sitting areas, a separate dining space, a tub, and a large balcony overlooking the pool. There’s a heated pool, a separate spa, steam rooms, and more. The garden is beautiful and makes the place feel far removed from the small village around it. You wouldn’t expect such a lovely spot there. Highly recommend it.
