Atami New Fujiya Hotel

My son and I booked this hotel for a last-minute overnight in Atami because it was inexpensive and in a perfect location. The included buffet dinner came with unlimited alcohol, and they weren’t skimping on quality. The red wine was decent, the shochu selection was superb, and they even had decent nihon-shu and Atsukan. I noticed several automatic draft beer machines, though I didn’t choose those that night. There are three onsen baths: one on the main building’s 11th floor, another on B2F, and a third on the annex building’s third floor. All were delightful. The 11th-floor and third-floor baths are outdoors, and the gentle breeze made them especially relaxing. Buffet breakfast was included too. I’d go again, as long as you don’t expect a five-star hotel experience. For the price, it’s a great place for onsen, decent meals, and a convenient base for walking around Atami. It’s about a 13-minute walk downhill from the station, with an amazing shotengai nearby.

The room was nice and the staff were nice too. There was a big selection of food, but the taste was just so-so.

My family stayed one night, and we were surprised by how old and outdated the room was. It didn’t seem properly cleaned or renovated, with plenty of dust and lots of stains and dirt in the bathroom. There was a bad smell in both the room and bathroom. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed, but I needed to give an honest review.

The location is okay if you can put up with a room that feels like it hasn’t been updated in 100 years. But if this hotel is meant to represent Japanese hotels, I wouldn’t come to Japan again.
