The food was extraordinary, from the varied breakfast to the seven plus one course dinner. The cooks are masters of their craft, preparing top-quality, luxurious dishes like wagyu and bluefin tuna with real skill. We didn't feel we needed to find another omakase anywhere. Service was another highlight. The attentive, professional staff seemed to give 110 percent, finding ways to meet requests and adding thoughtful touches, like sweets with a note and the next day's sunrise time. Watei Kazekomichi has only eight rooms, which made for the comfortable, intimate stay we hoped for when we came to Atami to fulfill my dream of having a private hot spring. We stayed in AOI, a spacious, quiet room, traditionally furnished with tatami mats, comfortable futon beds, A/C, and beautifully made wood floors that were pleasant just to walk on. The building seems a little older, though I can't date it, but the rooms were spotless and likely newer than the rest of the house. The private onsen stayed at a consistent adjustable temperature and was ready whenever we wanted, especially comforting after dark. Thank you for having us. The house, staff, and food will stay with us as a cherished memory.

Dinner and breakfast were 10/10, everything was flavorful, fresh, and distinctive. The vegetarian options were unclear to me, though I usually eat vegetarian, and both meals included many fish or seafood dishes and a couple of meat dishes. Our bags were brought to the room while we checked in, and the room itself was gorgeous, with all the amenities we needed, including a mini fridge stocked with water, green tea, beer, and cider, plus hot green tea and delicious coffee. The room's private balcony onsen and the view were the highlights. The staff said they could adjust the temperature if needed. The beds were very comfortable, the heating and A/C worked well, and there was a humidifier. The onsen was very relaxing. My husband and I had a phenomenal stay, probably the highlight of our 15-day trip to Japan. They picked us up at the train station, and the drive to the hotel took about 10 minutes. We were served green tea and a sweet while enjoying the mountain and ocean views, and they handled check-in as we enjoyed the welcome drink and snack. There is no elevator, so we were glad we only had backpacks. I'd recommend leaving larger bags in station lockers if you can. They asked what time we wanted dinner and breakfast, showed us to the room, and explained how everything worked. When dinner was ready, they called us to come upstairs. We wore the provided yukata, though regular clothes were fine too, and the private dining meant it didn't matter much. Checkout was smooth, and they drove us back to the train station. I don't know if they can hold bags, but it's a long walk from downtown. If you want to explore Atami before or after your stay, I'd use the station coin lockers and arrange transportation with the hotel.

The food was excellent, with a refined feel and careful attention to detail. The room's beautiful style and private onsen were real highlights, and the staff were genuinely friendly.

The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was a highlight too, beautifully presented, with every bite exceeding what we expected. My husband and I stayed last August, and it was truly memorable. Our spacious room was elegantly designed and spotlessly clean, with a cozy but luxurious feel. The view was breathtaking, and the private onsen was a dream, with perfectly warm water and a deeply relaxing feel. We couldn't have asked for a better getaway.

The meals were lavish, with a mix of hot and cold dishes and plenty of ingredients we hadn't seen before, or hadn't seen prepared that way. You should definitely get the dinner course. The outdoor bath was excellent, and the temperature suited the season. A few leaves sometimes fell in since it's outside, but that wasn't a problem. The view from the bath was lovely too, and they give you an estimated sunrise time, so don't miss it. The room came with plenty of free amenities, including drip coffee, tea, cider, and beer. Some staff speak English and can help with requests. We didn't know how to tie the yukata obi, and they helped us. No need to overpack, since they provide clothes for a short stay. The rooms stay warm enough in winter, so packing light is fine.
