Rembrandt Style Honatsugi

I had an accidental double booking with hotel Rembrandt because of an error on the booking website. While my booking was still active, I explained what happened and asked whether I could get a refund for the nights I had left, since they might be able to resell the room. They declined and kept my money. Two years ago in Nagano, a flight cancellation meant I couldn’t reach another hotel in Japan. They could have kept my payment too, but chose to refund it. I appreciated that and went back to stay with them later. I know not every hotel can be expected to handle things the same way, but hotel Rembrandt showed no flexibility or sympathy. I won’t stay here or recommend it.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, the water pressure in the shower was amazing, and the room had great air conditioning. The location also worked well for me, within walking distance of lots of restaurants and bars. I’m still happy with the place and would come back. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely small. If you’re over six feet tall, the bathroom is a struggle, and opening luggage on the floor takes up the whole room. There’s no on-site parking, so local parking adds about 5k yen to your expected costs. You also have to pay the breakfast fee just to get coffee. Check-in before 3pm is denied, and the lobby uses a check-in machine, so it’s a very digital hotel.

The hotel itself was nice, which makes this policy such a shame. I stayed three nights, then 31 minutes after checking out, staff came over with a leaflet and asked me to pay 600y ($4.5) per hour to sit in their large, empty lobby while I worked on my laptop and waited to travel to the airport. I do NOT recommend it. I’ve worked in Tokyo for months and never seen a hotel treat guests this rudely. Others have already mentioned their rude policies.

The rooms are on the small side, but comfortable, and we really like this Hotel. I enjoyed being able to relax in the "cafe," and sitting on the patio was comfortable too. It’s a great spot for catching busses into the mountains and getting some time to relax.
