Kamenoi Hotel Awajishima

The ship-shaped hotel has some nice views.

I went because the all-you-can-eat crab plan appealed to me. The open-air bath seems to have been renovated and looks beautiful, and the food was delicious. I ate plenty of crab and was satisfied. One thing that bothered me was how quickly the plates were cleared. I like to eat the garnish with my sashimi, but they took my plate away just as I thought I had finished the fish, without even saying they were going to clear it. There was a smoking room on the first floor, and the first-floor toilets smelled strongly of cigarettes. I wish they would remove the smoking room.

I stayed at the main branch in Beppu when I was in junior high school, and even at that age I could tell it was a prestigious inn. This time I visited Awaji Island with high expectations, though I understood the New Year's rates. The room and bathroom amenities were poor. The ocean view was lovely, and the round window modeled on a ship's hull was interesting and attractive. However, its wooden frames were worn, which spoiled the impression. The room also felt like a business hotel, and for two adults the roughly 200,000 yen price for three days and two nights did not feel worthwhile. It's sad that a hotel that prides itself on comfort can't afford repairs. I understand that they are trying to recover after profits fell significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was disappointed, especially since I remember hearing about a reopening last year. I think up to 30,000 yen per person per night would be a reasonable price. Unfortunately, I don't want to stay there again.
