The in-room Kaiseki dinner was a highlight. Over 2 nights, we had a satisfying 10-course meal using local produce, and the elderly staff member who set up the room was kind and caring. The service was great throughout, from check-in to replenishing amenities and handling our requests. There are indoor and outdoor Onsens, plus a private one for a fee. The water felt revitalizing and the temperature was good. The outdoor bath fits about 3 to 4 pax comfortably, so it's best to go during off hours. The lounge and rest areas also have FREE DRINKS from 1500-2100, including water, juice, tea, beer, high balls, and sake. Great value. We stayed from 4th Jan to 6th Jan 2024. The Washitsu rooms looked dated at first, though they were clean and hygienic. That was the one thing keeping the stay from being outstanding. Even so, it made for a wonderful break from city life.

A really good place with kids. There's a toy-filled kids room, and you can have a delicious dinner in your room. The breakfast buffet has pancakes and other kid-friendly foods too.

We mixed this hotel up with another one on the same road because the names were similar and there was a language barrier. We weren't staying here, but the staff welcomed us, helped unload our bags in the lobby, and one of them even ran uphill to the parking lot to help park our rental van. When they checked our passports, they realized we had no reservation there, and we showed them our booking documents. They then helped load everything back into the van. A staff member ran ahead of us down the steep hill, guiding the van around the tight turns on the narrow road for quite a distance. We felt embarrassed about the mistake and were touched by how kind they were. Even though we weren't paying guests, the service was top notch. If we return to Beppu, we'll definitely stay here.

I paid ¥540 at reception and got an onsen stamp. It was open 12:00-15:00, with parking available. Shampoo was provided, but you need your own towel. On my Friday visit I soaked for 40 minutes and had the place to myself most of the time. There was only the outdoor bath open when I went. You can partly see your belongings while bathing, and there are no lockers. To reach the bath, you go outside, down a few steps and past some bamboo. There are two wash spots with shower heads and stools. The large stone tub is mostly under a wooden roof, looking out over a green, tree-covered slope. Facilities were clean and in excellent shape. There's a free hairdryer in the changing room and a free foot bath by the hotel entrance. A simple hot spring, gensen kakenagashi.
