Guest House Rojiura

The lounge and shared area were great. I met some nice people there, we hung out, then went to a Karaoke right across from the hostel. The WiFi was strong enough for work and calls, and sitting with my laptop in the lounge was comfortable. Getting around Beppu was convenient, and Beppu Kitahama bus station was a 5 min walk away. The room layout made the beds feel comfortable and not cramped like some other hostels in Japan. My bunk had a curtain that blocked the light and gave good privacy. The room was big, and the locker could fit my 16" laptop and a camera bag with body + 3 lenses. For the price, it was fairly cheap for a hostel in Japan. The kitchen was very basic, enough for something like an omlet, but that’s about it. I wish it had common things like oil so I wouldn’t have to buy them. There was one shower for men and one for women, so sometimes I had to wait. I could also shower in the sauna room, but there’s no privacy there.

There are lots of places to eat nearby, and the public area is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was very clean and well kept too. It’s just a short walk from the station.

We only stayed one night. The place was very well equipped and the facilities were clean. Just keep in mind there’s no check-in staff before 4pm, so you can’t leave your bags early. The bed frames creaked whenever we moved at night, and we kept waking each other up.

There’s a large common space with plenty of tables indoors and out, and the location is good, very close to a convenience store. Everything felt new and was really clean. The staff were friendly and professional. My room was cozy, though the bed was a bit stiff, but still comfortable.
