Hotel Nagisa

The onsen is open 24/7, which is pretty cool, and the location is really handy, about 10min from the train station. The hotel is dated and not the cleanest, but for the price that seems fair. Staff don’t speak English, though they’re nice and friendly, Japanese style.

I loved the ocean view and the chance to enjoy Japanese food and a natural onsen. The owners are a kind, sweet older couple, and staying here felt like an authentic experience. 🇯🇵❤️

You can use the onsen bath any time, day or night. It was good.

The big bath was a highlight. I stayed on a weekday and nearly had it to myself, and the water was just the right temperature for unwinding. There’s also a family bath you can reserve ahead, which seems handy for families with kids. One shower head in the men’s area was broken and could use replacing. The staff I met were all polite and attentive, with a warm, almost family-like manner while giving guests comfortable space. The building is old, but it has an auto-lock and card key system, and the handmade-style decorations made me feel they’d put care into the place. My Western-style room had some noise from next door, so light sleepers may want earplugs. I liked the large wall-mounted TV, maybe around 30-40 inches. It’s a business and tourist hotel in the same district as Beppu Tower. If you’re driving, plan your route first. Roads away from Beppu’s main streets are narrow and many are one-way, and parking several large vehicles may be difficult, so check in advance. I booked at short notice for one night and, as a solo man looking for a business hotel with hot spring access, was very satisfied. I’ll come back sometime.
